Introduction to Recording in the Home Studio (6 hrs.)  

Home recording using computers is one of the fastest growth segments in music.  With the right software, your computer can be a recorder, mixer, editor, video production system, and even a musical instrument.  This course will help you get the most out of your computer and turn it, and you, into a creative powerhouse.  We will take a comprehensive look at software and hardware, and provide techniques for getting the most out of your music computer that will enable you to polish your demos into professional sounding finished recordings.

The Basics of Mixing (3 hrs.)  

No piece of gear is more central to the recording studio than the mixing board.  Mixing involves blending all of your separate tracks into one stereo pair suitable for listening.  Learn the evolution of mixing, regional mixing styles, the elements of a mix, rules for arrangements and principles of building your mix!  Learn how to make the connections, the crucial concepts, signal flow, balance and EQ, adding additional signal effects, and provide a final master mix of your sound.  Multi-track recording, mixing a recording, and live mixing techniques will be covered.

The Basics of MIDI (3 hrs.) 

Gain an essential understanding of Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) synthesizers, soundcards, sequencers, computers and more!  This course shows how a MIDI system (or systems) for a wide range of situations can be assembled quickly, easily and trouble-free.  Learn how to synchronize MIDI sequencers, drum machines, multi-track equipment, and other MIDI instruments.  Learn MIDI code, the techniques used in transmitting these codes between various MIDI devices and how to get the most out of any musical situation that calls for the use of synthesizers and electronic musical instruments.

The residents of Berea, Brooklyn, Brook Park, Fairview Park, Middleburg Heights, North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Township and Strongsville will receive a $5 discount on the tuition fees listed.
