Medical Assisting* (946 hours)

  

There is no better time than the present to enter the healthcare field.  The Medical Assisting program is a great way to gain access to this exciting profession.  You will learn the skills you need to prepare you for employment in a physician’s office, clinic, or hospital.

 

The course will cover, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Phlebotomy Certification
  • Scheduling Appointments
  • Records Management/Electronic Medical Records
  • Medical Law and Ethics
  • Entry-Level ICD-9/CPT Coding
  • Health Insurance Claim Forms
  • AED/Adult/Child/Infant CPR
  • First Aid/Medical Emergencies
  • Computer Skills
  • Psychology of Human Behavior
  • Employability Skills
  • OSHA/Universal Precautions
  • HIPAA/Standards and Guidelines 

Medical Assisting students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience through a 160-200 hour nonpaid externship.  Students will be required to have a routine physical, a criminal background check, updated immunization records, 2-Step Mantoux TB test, and have started the hepatitis B series prior to participation in the externship portion of the program (to be discussed during orientation).  Students will be required to purchase their own uniforms (to be discussed during orientation the first week of class).

 

The Polaris Medical Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants Endowment (CRB-AAMAE). Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification examination and the International Academy of Phlebotomy Science (IAPS) certification examination.

 

Advanced Placement

Advanced placement will only be allowed as transfer credit from an accredited institution and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  This must be arranged prior to enrollment.  Credit will not be granted for experiential learning.

Day

Monday – Thursday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

September 7, 2010 – June 30, 2011 (approximate ending date)

Evening

Monday - Thursday, 4:30 PM – 10:30 PM

January 31, 2011 – November 9, 2011 (approximate ending date)

 

Tuition Fee $6,995

Tuition includes textbooks, CMA and IAPS examination fees.

 

Qualifies for CT2 College Credit
