Interior Design (30 hrs.)

Comprehensive introduction for those with a general interest in design or a future career in residential or commercial designing. Course includes space planning design elements, principles of design, color application, design materials (fabric, wall coverings, window treatment, floor covering, lighting and accessories), furniture styles, drafting techniques, and final presentation. Supplies will be discussed at the first class. Bring pen, scissors, magazines and rubber cement to class. Taught by a professional designer.  Certificate of completion provided.

Color Makeovers (6 hrs.) 

Paint is the best accessory for any room and can be the most effective yet inexpensive way to update your home!  Taught by a professional designer, this hands-on class will give you the tools and knowledge to explore and introduce color in your home for dynamic changes using paint and other accessories.  Students will focus on concepts of color, the color wheel, color schemes and color application.  Bring scissors to class; additional supplies provided for projects.

Painting (4 hrs.)

An overview of best methods and materials for interior and exterior painting.  From primers to color selection, this class covers everything you need to know for a successful paint job.

Decorative and Faux Finishes (4hrs.)

Turn your walls into art!  Hands-on instruction of a variety of simple decorative and faux painting techniques.

Advanced Decorative Finishes (4hrs.)   NEW

Venetian plaster, wall texturing and wood graining are just some of the unique finishes that will be demonstrated in this class.

PROFESSIONAL FLORAL DESIGN

The following Floral Design classes are taught by a professionally trained and experienced designer and are appropriate for both professional and personal use.  Certificate of completion provided.

 

Floral Design III (8 hrs.)

Master the art of designing.  Learn more complex designs and selected skills appropriate for work in a floral shop.  Students will take home an arrangement every week.  Prerequisite:  Floral Design II or previous experience.

Floral Design -- Weddings (6 hrs.)

Learn skills to work in a professional floral shop creating wedding bouquets, centerpieces, altar arrangements, corsages and boutonnières.  Prerequisite:  Floral Design II or equivalent training/experience.

Container Gardening (2 hrs.) 

A well-planted container will add beauty and variety to any outdoor space.  Used singly or grouped together, planted containers can transform a patio, deck or entrance to your home.  Learn design techniques while creating your own container garden to take home.  Tips for getting your plants to grow and thrive are included.

Gardening Inside “The Box”   (2 hrs.)  NEW

Your condo or development will not allow you to put a shovel in the soil, you live in an apartment but have a patio or balcony, or you just don’t want the work of creating a garden in your lawn but you want to be surrounded by plants and vegetables. Learn how to garden within limits from balconies to roof tops to containers and window boxes. Create, plant and take home a container garden to begin your adventure of gardening “inside the box.”

Mosaic – Decorate Your Containers  (2 hrs.)  NEW

Learn how to change your garden décor from drab to “fab” using just about anything from broken dishes to those keys that you can’t remember what they unlock. We will be engaging in some creative garden art with mosaic. Bring safety glasses, gloves, hammer, old towel and any old dishes, keys, marbles, findings you would like to use.

LANDSCAPING

The following Landscaping classes are taught by a professionally certified and experienced landscape designer and are appropriate for both professional and personal use. 

 

Lawn Care: It’s More Than Mowing   (4 hrs.) NEW

In this class you will be instructed in the basics of lawn care from mowing to selection and application of fertilizer, treating for insect pests, soil testing and tackling lawn problems.  Integrated Pest management will be discussed--how the way you take care of your yard attracts or repels certain pests and diseases.

The Art of Plant Selection (4 hrs.)

Explore the art of combining plants to help you make choices when you go to a garden center.  Learn how to use color, texture, form and layering to enhance the beauty of your garden.  Class will meet at a garden center the second evening.

The Small Space Garden   (4 hrs.)  NEW

Our houses are getting bigger but our lot sizes are getting smaller.  How can you make the most of your small lot? This class deals with garden placement, selection of plants and determining the right tree for your size lot.

The residents of Berea, Brooklyn, Brook Park, Fairview Park, Middleburg Heights, North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Township and Strongsville will receive a $5 discount on the tuition fees listed.
