A country search brings up the basic information but a search of the nationality brings up information on the culture which includes the literature and writers from the country. You can do a search on the literature of the country and find author biographies and lists of their works.( example: French literature or Romania and literature) You may be able to find full text of shorter works.

Britannica Online- Check new Britannica High School edition for articles pictures and videos on the countries.

World Data Analyst--Offers statistical portraits of the countries and the tools for making comparative charts and tables.

World Factbook--The Factbook has been an annual publication from the CIA but some selected data and maps are updated periodically during the  year.

Chiefs of State--This online directory of Chiefs of State and Cabinet Members of Foreign Governments is updated weekly by the CIA.
