Automotive Tech Prep

Auto Tech Prep 07-08

“This program allows me to do what I love and is preparing me for a successful career at the same time.  What a great experience!”

Chris Kingsley

Berea High School

Hybrids, electric engines, satellite navigation…forget about those outdated perceptions of auto mechanics.  The automotive profession is changing rapidly - the average car has six to thirty-six computers managing everything from the sunroof to the anti-lock braking system (ABS).  Today’s auto technicians are high-tech master diagnosticians facing components and repairs unheard of a generation ago.

The Automotive Tech Prep program prepares you for a career in the automotive service industry by integrating hands-on training with academic studies.  You can also get a head start on your college education.  Successful completers of this program may earn credit from Cuyahoga Community College, as well as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification.  In addition, students who excel in both academics and the Automotive Tech Prep program may obtain a paid mentorship during the summer of their junior year in an auto dealership through the Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) program.

To enroll in the Automotive Tech Prep program, you must have successfully completed Algebra I prior to enrollment and should complete Algebra II by graduation. It is recommended that you have eight credits at the end of your sophomore year.
