Searching the Internet: The ILT provides links to Educational Subject Guides, which provide an excellent alternative to general search engines. Some of the better guides include MarcoPolo (and their Search Engine) providing the best quality-web-based resources for teachers, Kathy Schrock's Guide to Educators with printouts to use with parents, an internet lesson designed for young students, and lessons for internet searching, The Adventures of CyberBee, Larry Magid provides a discussion on using the internet or just using search engines at Larry's World, and finally Global School Net offers some guidelines and policies for protecting students. The Global SchoolNet Foundation has provided information for teachers and parents surrounding issues of proper Internet Use and Protecting Kids. The Search Engine Watch provides excellent analysis and advice about Internet searching.

The Instruction Learning and Technology Leadership Institute provides some materials to familiarize yourself with Search Engines. Google is presently recognized among the best, practice boolean or power searching at Google's Advance Search or make use of our boolean handout.  Dr. Bernie Dodge has a page to 7 Steps Towards Better Searching along with a quiz.  Arlene Rinaldi has a page dedicated to Netiquette and her Ten Commandments for Computer Ethics. If you are ready to practice, try an Internet Scavenger Hunt.  The ILT also provides links to Libraries and encyclopedias online. The Big6™ is the most widely-known and -used approach to teaching information and technology skills in the world. Here is a project employing the Big6™.

UMN's Mustang was designed to provide models, standards, and issues surrounding classroom use, as well as displaying sample projects. Boulder Valley School District of Colorado, has a description of their internet project. No need to reinvent the wheel when considering issues, policies, and projects when putting your school on line. Cyberbee and New Mexico State University have links to forms teachers might use with parents or students, issues to consider before using the internet, and referencing and citing internet resources.

Teachers & Projects: Trying to find teachers or other schools on line, try Classroom Connect's site or WEB66's Ohio Schools on line. Interested in online distance projects? Finally, try our own Projects Page.
