Pell Grant Funding Requirements

The maximum award for 2010-2011 is $5,550 for a 900-clock hour program, and $3,700 for a 600-clock hour program.

Award amounts are based on the applicant’s previous year’s income.

If awarded, the grant will be applied to a student’s account when enrolling in a full-time job training program meeting 600 or 900 hours.

Students are required to self-pay the balance of the tuition not covered by financial aid, or apply for other assistance to cover the balance.

All Pell Grant funds are applied directly to tuition. The Pell Grant does not have to be repaid.
Please Note:
To remain eligible for Pell Grant funds, a full-time student must maintain satisfactory academic progress (C average) in addition to a minimum of 90% attendance. Students not in compliance with the attendance policy will be responsible for paying any financial aid expected to be received from the U.S. Department of Education.

1. Complete the 2010-2011 FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov or go to www.polaris.edu, click on Adult Education, click on Financial Aid, click on www.fafsa.ed.gov.
2. Contact Pat Carter, Financial Aid Coordinator, at 440-891-7668 to determine Pell Grant and Direct Loan eligibility one week after submitting the FAFSA.
3. Go to www.polaris.edu,
a. Click on Adult Education
b. Click on Financial Aid,
c. Click on www.studentloans.gov
d. Sign in with your FAFSA PIN
e. Read the information provided regarding the loan process, interest rates, and repayment
f. Complete “Entrance Counseling”
g. Complete and submit the “Master Promissory Note (MPN) for Subsidized, Unsubsidized, or PLUS loans
h. Contact Pat Carter, Financial Aid Coordinator, at 440-891-7668, to have your loan certified for the amount you want to borrow
4. Complete “Exit Counseling” before the last loan disbursement
The Direct Student Loan will be disbursed to the school in two separate payments from the U.S. Department of Education. One half of the loan will be disbursed in the Fall and one half will be disbursed in the Spring, depending on the class start date. The school adheres to the policies and procedures set by the U.S. Department of Education, The Auditor of the State of Ohio, and the Polaris Career Center Treasurer’s Office for all disbursements. Loan funds will be first applied toward tuition costs. Any balance of funds will be refunded to the student. Students will be notified when refund checks are available.

An interest free tuition payment plan is offered by the Adult Education Department for Job Training and Short-Term Training Programs.

The cost of the program will be divided into payments (depending on the length of the class) with an initial payment due at the time of registration.

A valid MasterCard or Visa must be on file when the Tuition Payment Plan arrangements are made with the Adult Education Office.

Polaris offers, at no additional cost, an automatic payment option for payments to be deducted on the student’s MasterCard or VISA on payment due dates.

Monthly payments are due the 1st of each month beginning with the month the program begins, except for the following: Nursing Assistant STNA – 2nd payment is due 1 week after class begins.
