The Cosmetology Academy prepares students for a challenging career in this exciting, cutting-edge field. Gain hands-on experience in the Polaris Career Center New Beginnings Salon while obtaining the industry knowledge necessary for the State Board Cosmetology license.

Acquire skills commonly used in cosmetology in the following areas:

  • Dispensary operations
  • Sanitation
  • Reception duties
  • Salon management

Emphasis will be placed on the hands-on practice of:

  • Scalp care and hair treatments
  • Shaping and cutting hair
  • Styling hair
  • Permanent waving
  • Hair relaxing and coloring
  • Hair highlighting and toning
  • Manicuring and pedicuring
  • Facial treatments
  • Wig and hairpiece care

Students will also learn employability skills.

Monday – Thursday
4:00 PM – 9:00 PM
September 8, 2014 – June, 2016 (approximate ending date)

Students registering for the Cosmetology School will need to show their high school diploma or GED (General Equivalent Development) certificate and proof of residency (utility bill, etc.).

Tuition Fee: $12,995 (includes non-refundable materials fee of $1,250)
Tuition includes textbooks, tool kit with mannequins; nail kit, smock and State Board examination fee.
Students can expect the following additional costs: uniforms.

The Cosmetology Academy is a 2-year program.  Qualified students will have access to two years of Pell Grant funding consisting of one 900-hour award and one 600-hour award.
