Cosmetology Academy

 

(1500 Hours) Financial Aid Eligible Program (For those who qualify)

 

The Cosmetology Academy prepares students for a challenging career in this exciting, cutting-edge field. Gain hands-on experience in the Polaris Career Center New Beginnings Salon while obtaining the industry knowledge necessary for the State Board Cosmetology license.

Acquire skills commonly used in cosmetology in the following areas:

  • Dispensary operations
  • Sanitation
  • Reception duties
  • Salon management

Emphasis will be placed on the hands-on practice of:

  • Scalp care and hair treatments
  • Shaping and cutting hair
  • Styling hair
  • Permanent waving
  • Hair relaxing and coloring
  • Hair highlighting and toning
  • Manicuring and pedicuring
  • Facial treatments
  • Wig and hairpiece care

Career Options (State license required):

  • Cosmetologist
  • Color technician
  • Perm specialist
  • Hair cutting specialist
  • Esthetician
  • Nail technician
  • Platform artist
  • Equipment sales

Students will also learn employability skills.

Certifications/Licensure include:

Ohio State Board Licensed Cosmetologist license (OSCB)

Schedule/Tuition

Monday – Thursday
4:00 PM – 9:00 PM
September 12, 2016 – June, 2018 (approximate ending date)

Please note: Students will need to show proof of residency in the State of Ohio (recent utility bill, tax bill, lease etc.) at time of registration.

Tuition Fee: $13,995 (includes non-refundable materials fee of $1,295)
Tuition includes textbooks, tool kit with mannequins; nail kit, smock and licensure examination fee. 

Students can expect the following additional costs: uniform.

One Year Option College Credit
This program is an approved One Year Option program with the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The One Year Option program allows graduates of Ohio Technical Centers who complete a 900-hour plus program of study and obtain an industry-recognized credential approved by the Chancellor to receive 30 college technical credit hours toward a technical degree upon enrollment in an institution of higher education.

The Cosmetology Academy is a 2-year program.  Qualified students will have access to two years of Pell Grant funding consisting of one 900-hour award and one 600-hour award.
