Graphic & Web Design
(600 Hours) Financial Aid Eligible Program
Graphic Design – 300 Hours
A 300-hour program is designed to prepare the student to perform specific functions in the graphic design/production field. This will be achieved by studying the basics of design, typography, color theory and basic layout; then applying them in the computer disciplines: Adobe InDesign CS6 (page layout); Photoshop CS6 (photo correction, retouching, etc.) and Illustrator CS6 (creating and modifying vector images). Advanced classes in electronic page layout and print production will round out preparation for jobs in the field.
Skills developed include, but are not limited to:
InDesign CS6
- Principles of page layout
- Working with text and graphics
- Color management
- Working with tabs and tables
- Preflight and preparation for printing
Photoshop CS6 Extended
- Editing and retouching photos
- Using layers, type and effects
- Photo Illustration and restoration
- Using images in other programs
Illustrator CS6
- Drawing vector images
- Re-drawing bitmap images
- Using gradients, blends and patterns
- Using type and layers
- Saving and exporting images
Web Design – 300 Hours
A 300-hour course created to prepare the student for the web design field. This will be achived by studying the basics of: HTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Content Management Systems, Social Media Networks, Flash animation and more, then application with Adobe Flash CS6 and Dreamweaver CS6. Design skills used from the Graphic Design section will be required before beginning the Web Design section.
Skills developed include, but are not limited to:
Dreamweaver CS6 Basics and Advanced
- Creating websites using design and code
- Writing HTML and CSS from scratch
- Using browsers to preview work
- Working with content management systems and social media networks
Flash CS6 Basics and Advanced
- Basics and interface
- Animation and actionscript
- Integrating Flash files into HTML and web applications
- Learning the full potential of Flash
*Adobe offers Associate Certification, nationally recoginized for the above mentioned Adobe programs. The fee included in the tuition is for one exam.
An introduction to the MacIntosh class will be included for those unfamiliar with the MacIntosh OS X v10.7 operating system. Prerequisite: General computer knowledge; keyboarding skills helpful.

Tuition includes textbooks and one Adobe Certification exam fee.
