Medical Billing & Coding (with electronic health records)

(900 Hours) Financial Aid Eligible Program

This 900-hour program is designed for those who wish to gain employment in medical billing and health information management in physician practices, outpatient clinics, billing companies as well as a variety of other medical facilities.  Students will develop a thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, electronic medical records, practice management software, Microsoft Office, medical office administration procedures, medical procedural coding, medical diagnostic coding, hospital billing, and reimbursement procedures.  Graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions as medical records technicians, or billing and coding specialists.  Students will be required to complete a 180-hour unpaid externship during daytime working hours at the end of the program.  Students will be eligible to participate in the National HealthCareer Association Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist exam (CBCS) and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam.

Students will be required to have a criminal background check.  Healthcare providers may require immunizations for students participating in externships. The cost of the physical and immunizations will be the responsibility of the student.
