CDL – Truck Driver Training
(200 Hours)
Polaris Career Center has partnered with Great Lakes Truck Driving School to provide the CDL Truck Driver Training program. The classroom instruction for the program will be held at Polaris Career Center, and the driving instruction will be held at Great Lakes Truck Driving School facility located at 27740 Royalton Rd. Columbia Station, Ohio 44028.
This program is designed for individuals who have no previous tractor-trailer experience and want an extensive training program that focuses on safe driving habits and skill development. The program includes classroom instruction designed to help students pass the CDL Knowledge Test, HAZWOPER training, and an emphasis on developing safe driving practices. Training prepares students with on-the-job experience.
Classroom instruction (76 hours), introduces students to the trucking industry; its regulations, laws, taxes, and standards. It covers a wide range of subjects to strengthen the student’s knowledge in truck driving techniques, maneuvers and safety awareness, and CDL prep.
Driving Range instruction (84 hours), Driving Range instruction teaches students how to properly maintain equipment, couple and uncouple tractor-trailer combination units, perform vehicle inspections, and practice various backing maneuvers to advance the students’ skill level.
Road Training (40 hours), On-road instruction introduces the students to various traffic situations and roadway systems to develop safe driving techniques. Students apply speed and space management, visual search, communication, shifting techniques, double clutching, progressive shifting, and defensive driving techniques to safely operate a tractor- trailer. A total of approximately 400 miles of on-road training is implemented to develop the students’ performance level.

Monday – Saturday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
July 22, 2013 – August 19, 2013 (approximate ending date)
Tuition Fee: $5,595
Tuition includes all materials, state fees, taxes and drug screening. (Students are responsible for the cost of the CDL temporary permit and CDL license.)
