Student Career Services

Polaris provides career services to students beginning in the eighth grade at our partner middle schools and continues through high school and beyond.  These services provide students with career awareness, career exploration and planning, as well as preparation for their future.

  • Camp Discovery is held in June for students entering seventh through tenth grades.
  • Interest surveys are initiated in the eighth grade.  Students identify careers that relate to their interests.
  • Students explore career and technical education by touring Polaris programs with their class.
  • Freshmen revisit and review their career interests as they enter high school using Ohio Career Information System (OCIS).  This leads to the initiation of their Individual Academic and Career Plan (IACP).
  • Polaris information is presented to all sophomores leading to program visitation days.

Career activities are scheduled for Polaris and our partner high schools to better inform students of career opportunities.

  • One-day career shadowing experiences.
  • Classroom speakers based on curriculum.
  • Field trips arranged for program areas.
  • Post-secondary presentations.

Classes and events are provided enabling students to gain valuable employability skills.

  • Resume preparation.
  • Passports/Portfolio creation.
  • Mock interview participation.
  • College fair attendance.
  • STEM Conference for Girls.
