"Creative people often encounter violent resistance from mediocre minds."
Albert Einstein

We (Geoff Andrews,  Mike Baker,Ron Goodwinand Terry Vacha) would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the new SAVVY Cyber Teachers who are attending the many Mentor/Mentee workshops throughout the Cleveland area.  We are all very excited about this opportunity.  We are also pleased to announce that Polaris is the recipient of a $9.2 Million Grant from the Dept. of Education to continue to develop the SAVVY curriculum for the full K-12 grade levels with Stevens Institute of Technology  and the League for Reform in the Community College within the Alliance Project.

As you continue to explore the Internet,  feel free to explore the links we have put together in the "Trainer's Toolbox."  As much as possible, Geoff, Ron and I would like to make the Internet become a greater part of your professional life.

As a reminder, please complete the homework assignment from Week1  (Steven's mirror Site)  for the next session.  The Steven's Institute, SAVVY Cyberteacher Web Site.

Our first two sessions will be more technical than the remaining sessions, with an increasing amount of time devoted to hands-on use of the Internet.    If during the next session you have problems making use of the Bookmark disks, rest assured we will spend more time reviewing this procedure.  We will try to make this Internet learning experience as meaningful and rewarding as possible.

Week2  (Return to the Polaris' week 2 links)
For this session everyone will be setting up email accounts and doing a little mailing back and forth.  Experiment  with Yahoo if you can, make an address book, some folders, and maybe try a filter.

Your homework is to 1) sign up for the listserv, Activity #4; and 2) do the Homework for Week 2 - NOTE: emailing the listserv (Mentors or Mentees) has been discontinued, instead complete  3) take part in the week 2 discussion group. These two things take about 15 minutes.

If you have some extra time :-) look again at the site with the experts, bookmarking the ones you like and making a note somewhere on how you might use them in the next month in your class.

Ohio SchoolNet Performance Tasks:  If you are interested in completing the SchoolNet Novice Networking Tools Requirements for certification as part of this coursework, (select SchoolNet's Novice Training Curriculum, Networking Tools links for clarification) you will need to join a listserv from this list.  Talk to Ron or Mike to complete necessary proficiencies for skill confirmation.

Call or email any of us (or each other!) for help. (Geoff Andrews,  Mike Bakerand Ron Goodwin Feel free to make use of the Alliance weekly discussion areas to pose questions or discuss frustrations as well as providing answers or comments to those posted by other members.  The real strength of a discussion group or listserv is the shared communications and ideas with people you will likely never meet!
