Throughout her Strongsville High School career, Megan Gorey embraced the concept of multi-tasking. While at Strongsville, she was a cheerleader, a member of the choir and participated in various musical productions. In 2003, Megan began her Polaris journey with a strong desire to work in the healthcare field. She enrolled in the Polaris Allied Health & Fitness Program (now called Exercise Science & Rehab Therapy) and enjoyed two very successful years at Polaris. She was class president during her senior year, a Polaris Peer Mediator, Polaris Student of the Quarter (April 2005), a Polaris Academic Excellence Award winner, a recipient of the North Coast Tech Prep Certificate of Accomplishment and she also gave one of three Polaris Senior Awards Ceremony speeches in May of 2005. During the second semester of her senior year, she took first place at the SkillsUSA regional and state competitions in the Prepared Speech category. As a state champion, she qualified to compete at the nationals in Kansas City where she took fourth place honors. At that very moment, she realized she was destined for a career in public speaking.
After graduating from Strongsville High School in 2005, she attended Kent State University and began her journalism career on TV2 as the main anchor. In 2007, she transferred to Ohio University after being accepted into the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. While at OU, she worked for WOUB as a reporter and producer. She graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Hearing, Speech & Language Sciences and Psychology and landed her first job at KHBS/KHOG in Rogers, Arkansas. During her tenure in Arkansas, she worked as a reporter, producer, and multimedia journalist. Later, she joined WCYB in Bristol, Virginia and honed her skills as a reporter, producer, anchor and assignment manager. Today, she is a producer for the ABC 6/Fox 28 “Good Day Columbus” program out of Columbus, Ohio. Megan’s efforts have not gone unnoticed as she has received numerous awards. She is most proud of her Emmy nomination and her 2010 Associated Press Award.
Even though she has poured her heart and soul into her broadcasting career, she still finds the time to fit community service into her busy schedule. She helped assist in storm relief efforts while covering tornado damage in Tennessee in 2011. In addition, she volunteered with the Boys & Girls Clubs while she was in the Bristol area.
Although she chose a different path from her original Polaris plan, she ultimately discovered her career at Polaris. Ms. Gorey currently resides in Columbus and is engaged to Nathan Keys.
