students posing with medals

Eleven students recently competed at the SkillsUSA state competition in Columbus.  SkillsUSA gives students the opportunity to showcase their skills and abilities in specific career-technical training areas. This year, hundreds of students from around Ohio competed in dozens of different events. Two Polaris students took home first-place honors and qualified to compete at nationals in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 19-24, 2023.

Polaris EMT/Fire Training seniors, Tyler Kebbel (middle-right), Brooklyn High School, and David Medina (right), Fairview High School, finished first in the EMT team challenge. In this competition, they were evaluated on their ability to perform as Emergency Medical Technicians under the auspices of the National Registry Patient Assessment Technical Scope of Practice Standards (TSOPS), the most current American Heart Association CPR/ECC guidelines, and the AAOS Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured.

In addition, Polaris had two Strongsville juniors place in the top three in their events. Cameron Miley (middle-left), EMT/Fire Training, took silver in First Aid-CPR, and Collin Lofgren (left), Precision CNC Machining, grabbed a bronze in the Precision Machining event.

Congratulations to our winners and good luck in Atlanta!
