Job & Career Training Admissions

THREE STEPS OF ENROLLMENT:

STEP 1: Contact Theresa Liska at 440-891-7697 for information about our Job and Career Training Programs, to set up a tour appointment or find out more about our registration process.

STEP 2: Start your financial aid . Contact Allison Smith at 440-891-7668.

STEP 3: Register. Registrations are on a first come, first serve basis. Once you have required documents and financial aid determined, please contact Kathryn Flanigan at 440-891-7653 to set up a registration appointment. Ask about our monthly program payment plan.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE AND REQUIREMENTS

Job & Career Training students must register in-person at Polaris Career Center Adult Education Department.

Enrollment for Fall 2024 will open May 1, 2024 at 8 am by calling 440.891.7653 to make an appointment with Kathryn for in-person registration. Please note, walk-in registration may be available during standard office hours after our Open House, Wednesday, May 8 at 5 PM.

Appointments are recommended, call 440.891.7653.

Walk-in hours: Monday - Thursday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM and Fridays, 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM. Evening appointments available by request.

Please bring the following required documentation:

  • High school diploma/official transcript from a State Department of Education approved high school, GED certificate or its equivalent. If the student's diploma is from a foreign country, the student must have the diploma translated into English by an authorized, certifying official at an official translation service to determine if it is equivalent to a U.S. Diploma. Evaluators charge for this service and it can take several weeks. Please visit the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services at www.naces.org to view a list of evaluators.

  • Valid United States of America government issued photo ID (i.e., driver's license or state ID)

Police Academy:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen

  • Be 21 years of age or older within two (2) months of the completion of the program

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent

  • Show proof of a valid driver's license

  • Show proof of current automobile insurance

  • Complete a physical exam with satisfactory results

  • Complete and pass the State of Ohio required physical fitness assessment

  • Complete a satisfactory drug screening test

  • Complete a background check with satisfactory results, including no conviction of felony, serious misdemeanor (m1) or domestic violence (even if expunged or sealed).

Practical Nursing:

  • An Adult Polaris Career Center application

  • Pre-Entrance Examination with a basic level test score or higher as determined by the testing company/Program Administrator.

Tuition payment (amount is determined by the financial aid award)

Financial aid:

  1. Student applies for financial aid

  2. Student confirms the award amount(s) with the Financial Aid Coordinator, 440.891.7668

  3. Financial Aid Coordinator applies anticipated award to student account

  4. Student may register

  5. Any balance due is paid in-full at time of registration or student may enter into a payment plan, with the initial payment due at time of registration.

Students may register once all prerequisite requirements listed below are met. Students must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen

  • Be 21 years of age or older by 2 months after completion of the program

  • High school diploma, GED equivalent

  • Show proof of a valid Ohio driver's license

  • Complete a physical exam with satisfactory results

  • Complete and pass the State of Ohio required physical fitness assessment

  • Complete a satisfactory drug screening test

  • Complete a background check with satisfactory results including no conviction of felony, serious misdemeanor (m1), or domestic violence (even expunged or sealed).

Admission policies are non-discriminatory to any eligible adult as stated in Polaris Career Center Board Policy which can be found on the Polaris website, in the Adult Education catalog, brochures, student handbook, and faculty handbook.
