Fifteen Polaris Business Professional & Office Technology, Broadcasting & Video Production and Digital Marketing students recently competed at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida. BPA is the premier CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization) for students pursuing careers in business management, information technology, finance, office administration, health administration and other related career fields. Globally, BPA has more than 45,000 student members in over 1,800 chapters spread across 25 states, Canada, China, Puerto Rico and beyond. These competitions give students the opportunity to showcase their technical skills while performing in a high-pressure setting. This year, 6,800 student delegates representing 800 school chapters competed in over 100 skills events.
We took home numerous honors at the national competition. In fact, we had six top 10 finishes, including third and fourth place. Sophia Solomon, a Berea-Midpark High School sophomore in the Broadcasting & Video Production program, finished third in the Virtual Multimedia and Promotion Individual challenge. In this event, students had to create a 1:00 - 2:30-minute digital promotional video highlighting a local nonprofit animal rescue in their area. The goal was to promote the need for volunteers to assist with animals and focus on the rewards of serving one’s community. Her nonprofit was Berea ARF (Animal Rescue Friends). In addition, Aiden Winkler, a Berea-Midpark High School junior in the Broadcasting & Video Production program, placed fourth in the same event. His video topic focused on the Middleburg Heights Animal Shelter.
