Students from our Broadcasting & Video Production Satellite Program at Berea-Midpark High School recently traveled to the Student Television Network’s National Convention in Tampa, Florida, where they competed alongside some of the top high school broadcast and film programs from across the country.
This year’s theme, Deep Dive, challenged students and teachers to push past the surface and explore bold, meaningful storytelling across broadcast, film and multimedia. With hands-on contests and inspiring pro-led sessions, this was the ultimate opportunity to grow their skills, connect with a creative community and showcase their work on a national level.

While at the convention, the students competed in two advanced competitions:
Crazy 8’s
In this fast-paced challenge, students were given eight hours onsite at the convention to create a short film based on a prompt in the action genre. Teams had to quickly develop a concept, shoot footage, and edit a complete film within the 8-hour time limit.

Short Film (Advanced/Division I)
In this competition, students crafted a complete cinematic story from start to finish based on a provided prompt in 6 hours. Entries needed to include a clear beginning, middle, and end, with strong structure, pacing, and visual storytelling. This event is designed for advanced students with three or more years of experience in video production.
